The organisation launched in 2006 with just four members - University of York, City of York Council, Aviva and Garbutt and Elliott – and has extended in 10 years to include over 40 business members from a variety of sectors across the city and 17 member schools.
In its first 10 years it assigned over 13,000 employee volunteers to over 1,000 community partners undertaking tasks from gardening to mentoring, delivering over 127,000 hours of volunteering. On average, it is estimated that York Cares adds over £80,000 of value to the city every year (volunteers calculated at minimum wage rate).
Holly Hennell from York Cares, said: “The Partners Group has tirelessly promoted York Cares. They can turn bullet points of information into captivating press releases which publicise York Cares programmes and acknowledge volunteers’ contributions. Their PR and marketing skills have proved invaluable in ensuring that the work of York Cares and its volunteers are now widely recognised across the city.”
