Finding the right path for MyPump Solutions

The Brief

MYGROUP Management Ltd is the company behind MyPump Solutions and MyWater Solutions, two young, ambitious fluid handling businesses built on four decades of engineering experience. 

Father and son team, Lee and Zac Barker, established the group in mid-2024 to bring a breath of fresh air to a traditional market, combining cutting-edge technology and products with a personal approach to customer service. 

Their team specialises in the specification and supply of pumps and pump room systems, working with maintenance engineers, heating, ventilation and air conditioning companies, mechanical and electrical contractors, facilities management companies, and design consultants on commercial newbuild and refurbishment schemes. 

With a wealth of product and technical expertise under their belts, MyPump Solutions and MyWater Solutions help customers achieve consistent pressure and hot water supply in the buildings they design, build or manage; run more efficient factories and reduce energy costs; and incorporate the latest sustainable technologies into their buildings or construction projects to support the net zero drive.

Lee and Zac approached Partners PR for help to shape and tell their story in a strategic and cohesive way; to help them build credibility for a young business by communicating the depth of expertise and experience that sits behind it; to get an external, objective PR perspective on how their business looks to the outside world; and an injection of fresh ideas.

The Campaign

After speaking with Lee and Zac about their needs and plans for the business, we agreed that the Partners Pathfinder service was the ideal starting point for MYGROUP. 

The Pathfinder involved us working with the two directors to build a strategic 12-month communications plan. As MYGROUP is based in West Yorkshire, Lee and Zac had the added benefit of funding towards the project through the West Yorkshire Good Growth Programme

We kicked things off with a review of their market and a look at how competitors are telling their stories in a sector that remains very traditional. From there, we spent time with the directors, digging deep into the story behind the business; working through where they sit in the market; what makes the business different and unique; identifying the customers they are targeting for each division; and shaping the distinct messages for each of their target markets.

From there, it was over to us to pull everything together into a structured 12-month PR strategy and communications plan to give their internal marketers a strategic blueprint for all future PR and marketing.

The Results

The final step in the process was to get together again with Lee and Zac and talk them through the communications strategy, messaging, and the 12-month ‘ideal world’ plan. 

With only part time in-house marketing resources available to deliver the plan, it was important to spend time identifying priority focus areas and some ‘quick wins’ that would help the internal team take communications to the next level and support the business in its growth plans.
